What We Believe
Shepherd of the Hills is a Lutheran church of the Missouri Synod
and a Stephen Ministry Congregation.

The entire Bible, which points to Jesus as Savior, is the inspired and errorless Word of God.
It is God's message of love and hope for all people.

There is only one true God, who exists in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit

All men as sinners separated from God, cannot save themselves, and deserve eternal punishment.

Jesus Christ, God's Son and true God, having also become true man, lived, suffered and died on the cross for the sins of all people, so that we need not remain separated from God.

Whoever repents of his sins and accepts Jesus Christ, by faith, as his Savior, has forgiveness of his sins and has eternal life with God.

In response to this loving gift of God, Christians strive to live holy lives as the fruit of their faith. Together with their fellow Christians in the church, they will serve God and do His work of sharing the Good News (Gospel) of Jesus Christ.

Stephen Ministry

The Core Purpose (Mission) of Stephen Ministries
Stephen Ministries' Core Purpose is summed up in the words of St. Paul in his letter to the Ephesians. These verses have been rendered by renowned calligrapher Timothy Botts on the entryway wall to the Stephen Ministries Center, boldly proclaiming the mission to everyone who enters.

"To equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ" (Ephesians 4:12-13).

The Core Values of Stephen Ministries

  • Incarnational theology
  • Ministry as the privilege and responsibility of all God's people
  • Empowering those we serve to get excellent results
  • Personal humility
  • Organizational stability
  • Positive work environment

Communion Services & Guidelines

Holy Communion

The Lord’s Supper is celebrated at this congregation in the confession and glad confidence that, as He says, our Lord gives into our mouths not only bread and wine but His very body and blood to eat and to drink for the forgiveness of sins and to strengthen our union with Him and with one another.  Our Lord invites to His table those who trust His words, repent of their sins, and set aside any refusal to forgive and love as He forgives and loves us, that they may show forth His death until He comes.

Because those who eat and drink our Lord’s body and blood unworthily do so at their great harm and because Holy Communion is a confession of faith which is confessed at this altar, any who are not yet instructed, in doubt, or who hold a confession differing from that of this congregation and The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, and yet desire to receive the Sacrament, are asked first to speak with the Pastor or an Elder.

(For further study, see Matthew 5:23ff; 10:32ff; 18:15-35; 26:26-29; and 1 Corinthians 11:17-34.)
